Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL) are high-performance geo-composites that are used as an alternative to conventional compacted clay liners. GCLs consist of two layers of geotextile stitched together enclosing a layer of processed sodium bentonite. Bentonite is a natural sealant, and when in contact with water, swells to form a low permeability clay liner. Underwater Installation of GCL
The ongoing operation of the barrage could not be obstructed during construction, and special emphasis was placed on not adversely affecting the environment. Thus, the Bavarian power authority (BEW) opted for the underwater installation of a geosynthetic clay liner sealing system. DOBLER was commissioned for the construction work. The GCL was provided by the manufacturer NAUE GmbH & Co. KG.
Bentofix® BZ 13-B is specially designed for underwater installation. Bentofix® BZ 13-B is a needle-punched, scrim-reinforced geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) with an additional top-side sand ballast layer. The encapsulated sodium bentonite swells in contact with water to provide an exceptional seal. The integrated sand ballast core also ensures the GCL’s “self-sinking.” This weight ensures secure, stable positioning of GCL panels, as well as enhances protection against other installation activities.

2. Heron Creek Irrigation Pond-current Pond liner was compromised, and we used GCL to seal bank to 15ft under water repairing and sealing compromised HDPE linerar along with installing 6ft Sox product for bank restoration and proving engineered stabilization with shoring system.
International Subsea Services will warranty this project for 10 years by installing 6ft Dredge Sox locking in the GCL mats to the embankments - we are ordering additional fill material to fill in all repairs and to ensure the pond is sealed.
